Adoption FAQs
What is the adoption fee and what does it cover?
Our standard adoption fee is $150. This covers spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and essential veterinary screening while the cat is in our nurturing foster care. JVC accepts cash, checks, Venmo, and PayPal as a last step in the process.
What are the primary requirements for adoption? Can I be pre-approved?
As a 501c3 Not-for-Profit, JVC has a Board which sets guidelines for our work in the community. The board sets certain policies and identifies 'red flags' that inform our screening process. JVC may ask at times difficult questions, but all are in the interest of finding a forever home for our cats & kittens. Some guidelines for you to consider. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and provide one veterinary reference plus two personal references. The homeowner or individual named on lease must be informed and consent to any adoption. We require an indoor-only commitment & agreement to a strict no-declawing policy. The Board also requires a veterinarian reference check on current or previous animals owned by the adopter. Furthermore, a history of abandonment, rehoming, or absence of customary vet care may be an obstacle to adoption. JVC is happy to pre-approve potential adopters who are early in the process of adoption or are waiting for a good fit for their family. This speeds the process along for when the perfect kitten or cat is met.
How long does the adoption process typically take
The process generally takes between 1 to 3 business days. This timeframe allows our volunteers to thoroughly verify references, conduct a screening call, and coordinate a meet-and-greet with the cat and their foster parent. Requests to 'hold' a cat or kitten for an upcoming vacation, business trip, or other reason require the adoption process to be complete, including payment for the cat/kitten. Additionally, it is at the discretion of JVC as to whether or not to accommodate. Every day extra we hold a cat/kitten is a day postponing our ability to help others come in off the streets, or out of an unstable situation as our fosters are many times at full capacity for weeks at a time.
Can I adopt if I already have other pets?
Absolutely! We prioritize finding the right match for both our cats and your existing pets. We evaluate compatibility and provide detailed guidance on how to perform slow, safe introductions to ensure a harmonious household.
Do you adopt cats/kitten(s) to homes outside of the Yardley area?
We primarily focus on Yardley, Fairless Hills, and surrounding communities in PA and NJ. This local focus ensures we can perform home delivery and maintain a supportive network for our adopters and their new family members. However, JVC has adopted across the country when the feline to family fit is purrrrfect.
What is your policy regarding outdoor access?
For their health and safety, all cats adopted through JVC must be kept strictly indoors. This ensures protection from outdoor hazards like traffic, predators, and contagious diseases, resulting in a safer and longer life.
Start Your Journey Together

Please complete the application as completely and clearly as possible. If you are unsure which cat you'd like to adopt or would like to meet them in person before deciding, please state that on your application. Most importantly, JVC will require a veterinarian reference for an animal that was in your care plus two additional references. If you do not have a vet reference please explain your plan for routine vet visits.
